How Do I Order the Replacement Key?
To order a new Mercedes-Benz replacement key, visit our dealership in person. The key must be pre-paid, and you must bring the following documentation:
- Original copy of vehicle registration
- Vehicle owner driver’s license, passport, or identity card
Can I Reprogram a Lost Key?
Because each key is hardcoded to the unique VIN, it cannot be reprogrammed.
Can Somebody Else Pick Up the Key on My Behalf?
Yes, an authorized representative or delegate may order and/or pick up the key on your behalf. If this is the case, they must bring the following to our Wilmington NC Mercedes-Benz dealership:
- Original copy of vehicle registration
- Vehicle owner driver’s license
- Passport or identity card
- A signed and dated letter of authorization from the owner of the vehicle
If picking up a key, the authorized representative or delegate must also bring the vehicle to the dealership.
Why Do I Have to Bring My Vehicle into the Dealership?
The key must be synchronized to the vehicle and checked for proper operation, which is why the vehicle must be at the dealership when you pick up the new key. The dealership also has to ensure that the person picking up the key has the vehicle in their possession, for the protection of the vehicle owner.
